Three current college players and three current WNBA players were named Tuesday to the 12-member Canadian women’s basketball team for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
South Carolina junior forward Laeticia Amihere, UConn sophomore forward Aaliyah Edwards and Arizona senior guard Shaina Pellington will all make their Olympic debuts. The three each competed in the Women’s Final Four earlier this year.
Minnesota Lynx forwards Natalie Achonwa (Notre Dame) and Bridget Carleton (Iowa State) were also named to the team, along the Phoenix Mercury guard Kia Nurse (UConn). Achonwa will be making her third Olympic appearance, Nurse her second and Carleton her first.
The Canadians will compete in Group A at the Olympics, where they will face South Korea, Serbia, and Spain in group play.
