Seattle Storm’s Breanna Stewart exits with foot injury, to undergo further evaluation

Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart, the MVP of last year’s WNBA Finals, left Tuesday’s 105-71 win over the Washington Mystics with a left foot injury suffered in the third quarter and did not return.

“We’re waiting to get further evaluation,” Storm coach Noelle Quinn said.

With the Storm already up 22 midway through the third quarter, Stewart hobbled off the court in pain as Quinn took a timeout. Stewart left the bench area to undergo examination before returning to watch Seattle finish out the 34-point victory, the team’s largest this season. Stewart was not walking with a noticeable limp after the game.

None of the other Seattle starters on the court saw the play, but guard Sue Bird said she turned and saw the look on Stewart’s face, “an ‘uh-oh’ look.”

Stewart, the 2019 WNBA MVP, is a contender to win the award again this year. She entered Tuesday tied for second in the WNBA in scoring at 20.7 points per game and third with 9.9 rebounds per game.

After Tuesday’s win, the Storm — who have clinched a playoff spot but are fighting for seeding — have four days off before completing their road schedule Sunday in Los Angeles against the Sparks.
