Two women’s USA Basketball teams seek gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Games. The U.S. women’s national basketball team seeks its seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal, with veteran guards Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi competing in their fifth Games. And as 3×3 basketball makes its Olympic debut, the U.S. women are one of eight teams that will compete in the inaugural event.
Twelve teams are competing in the women’s 5×5 event. The U.S. team is in Group B with Japan, France and Nigeria. The preliminary round runs July 25-Aug. 2. The Americans have won the gold medal at every Summer Games since 1996.
Group play in the women’s 3×3 event runs July 23-27, with multiple games often played in the same day.
