Las Vegas Aces center Liz Cambage tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed in the WNBA’s health and safety protocols, the team announced Wednesday.
According to the Aces, Cambage is fully vaccinated and experiencing mild symptoms. She will isolate until she is cleared to return to play.
Cambage, 30, is averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds for the 19-7 Aces, who host the Chicago Sky at 10 p.m. ET Thursday on NBA TV and then travel to Chicago for a 3 p.m. ET game Sunday on ABC.
In March 2020, Cambage wrote on Instagram that she thought she contracted COVID-19 in December 2019 while playing in China. She said she was told then that it was a “viral infection,” one that resulted in a brief hospitalization. Cambage said she still felt the effects of the illness for more than a month.
She did not play in the WNBA’s bubble in Bradenton, Florida, last season as she received a medical exemption.
The WNBA announced in late June that 99% of its players are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and all 12 teams have met the threshold for being fully vaccinated.
