Connecticut Sun star Alyssa Thomas is poised to make her first start of the 2021 WNBA regular season, less than a year after tearing her Achilles.

Thomas practiced with the team Tuesday, and Sun coach Curt Miller said afterward there is a strong chance she could see minutes in Wednesday’s game against the New York Liberty.

The Sun listed her as probable on the official injury report for Wednesday’s game.

“She had a good practice again today, so I’ll put it that way,” Miller said. “We are very optimistic.”

Miller’s comments came after Sun forward Beatrice Mompremier told reporters she “can’t wait” to see Thomas play Wednesday

Thomas, 28, was playing overseas for USK Praha in the Czech Republic when she was injured. The Sun announced the injury in late January. Athletes with such injuries usually take nine to 12 months to return.

Thomas has played her entire seven-year WNBA career with the Sun, averaging 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

Thomas’ return comes at a good time for the Sun, who are 24-6 and on a 12-game winning streak. The Sun recently locked up the No. 1 seed for the playoffs, ensuring a bye to the semifinals.
