Cheryl Reeve, head coach and general manager for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, signed a multi-year contract extension with the team Friday. Terms of the deals were not released.

Reeve became coach of the Lynx in 2010, and they’ve won four WNBA titles since. She added general manager duties to her role in 2017. This past season, Minnesota went 18-16 and lost in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.

The Lynx were without three of the “core four” who led them to their championships, as forward Maya Moore took a basketball sabbatical in 2019, forward Rebekkah Brunson also didn’t play in the WNBA, and point guard Lindsay Whalen retired after the 2018 season and is now the Minnesota Gophers’ women’s basketball head coach. The fourth player of that group, guard Seimone Augustus, was limited to 13 games this past season because of injury.

However, the Lynx began restocking their talent around veteran center Sylvia Fowles with a trade for guard Odyssey Sims, who led the team in scoring (14.5 PPG), and the development of WNBA rookie of the year forward Napheesa Collier (13.1).

“I am thrilled that Cheryl will continue to lead our Lynx basketball operations for years to come,” said Lynx/Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. “We look forward to the rest of the offseason as we build towards the 2020 season and a run at a fifth championship.”
